MCP

Welcome to St. Mary & Archangel Michael’s Monthly Camp Program (MCP)

The Monthly Camp Program (MCP) at St. Mary & Archangel Michael Coptic Orthodox Church in Houston is a place of spiritual healing and transformation. This special weekend retreat offers our youth—elementary, middle, and high school students—a unique opportunity to deepen their relationship with Christ through engaging spiritual instruction, Christian fellowship, and acts of service. The MCP is more than just a camp; it’s a chance for young people to come together, learn, and grow in their faith, surrounded by a supportive community and the love of Christ.

Our program takes place in the Coptic Youth Center (CYC), a space specifically designed for nurturing the spiritual and personal development of our youth. Since its opening on April 26, 2009, the CYC has been a cornerstone of our church’s mission to guide young hearts and minds towards a closer walk with God. The weekend is filled with activities, teachings, and moments that encourage participants to discover more about their faith while enjoying time spent with fellow believers. The retreat culminates with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy on Sunday morning, followed by participation in Sunday School, completing a spiritually fulfilling weekend of learning and growth.

The vision behind the CYC and the MCP is rooted in our understanding that one hour of Sunday School each week is not enough to meet the spiritual needs of our youth. In a world filled with distractions and worldly concerns, we believe in the importance of providing additional opportunities for deeper reflection, teaching, and discipleship. The MCP seeks to fill this gap, offering a focused and structured environment where Biblical teachings are combined with new and engaging methods of learning, all while instilling core Christian values that will guide our youth for a lifetime.

At the heart of the MCP is the desire to foster a sense of belonging. Through shared experiences, our youth not only build lasting friendships with one another, but also deepen their connection with the Church and the faith it represents. They learn the value of Christian fellowship, the strength of community, and the importance of serving others—all essential to leading a Christ-centered life.

The MCP also emphasizes the development of good habits through repetition and structure. As participants follow a well-planned schedule, they are introduced to the virtues of discipline, punctuality, and responsibility, which are key to their spiritual growth. By dedicating time to spiritual instruction and fellowship in a world that constantly vies for their attention, they learn to prioritize their relationship with God and resist the distractions of modern life. It’s a chance for them to turn feelings of absence from the Church into a sense of belonging and commitment to their faith.

Furthermore, the MCP offers our youth a chance to serve and give back. Whether through acts of kindness within the church or service projects that reach beyond our walls, participants are taught the value of Christian service, helping them to grow in humility and love for others. This is not just a weekend retreat—it is an opportunity for our youth to be molded into leaders and servants of Christ, equipped to carry the teachings of the Church into the world around them.

In a world where time is fleeting and the pressures of everyday life can easily pull us away from our spiritual journey, the MCP provides a much-needed opportunity to pause and refocus. It allows our young people to spend meaningful time together, building each other up in faith and growing closer to God in an environment that is both joyful and nurturing.

The weekend experience provided by the MCP will not only teach our youth the principles of a structured, disciplined life but will also help them develop lifelong habits that will guide them in their walk with Christ. By providing this extended time for reflection, worship, and fellowship, we aim to equip the next generation with the tools they need to live out their faith in a way that honors God and strengthens the Church community.
